The summer of 2002 I gave myself an early 60th birthday present,
a trip down the Colorado River through the Grand Canyon.
I want to share that experience with you.

Recommendations
I went with my friend and river-running partner Donna Monroe with Canyon Explorations /Expeditions. I recommend them very highly. From the time we made our reservation - a year in advance - they were wonderful. The trip exceeded my already very high expectations!
Guides
The guides were perfect - the most positive group of people I have ever encountered. Each in their own way, they were both fun and then serious when necessary, very informative and encouraging. Their whole effort was spent making this the trip of a lifetime for all of us and they succeeded completely.
Equipment
We chose this trip because it provided a variety of boats. We had five oarboats, one paddleboats, and two duckies. We all traded around so everyone rode with each guide and in each kind of boat.
Options
We chose to do the whole two weeks and avoid hiking either up or down to/from Phantom Ranch. I recommend doing both the upper and lower sections, but if the time and/or expense are too much, either one is a fantastic experience. Motorized raft trips are less rigorous and faster, but quite good. The one-day option offered by the Hualapai Indians looks excellent.
