Kirstenbosch National Botanical Gardens
26 December 2011 --- My first hop-off the double-decker tour bus was at Kirstenbosch National Botanical Gardens on the slopes of Devils Peak. That area gets more rain than most of Cape Town, 80 inches a year, so native plants grow well there. Compared to Belize's rainforest, this is quite arid, but the gardens are spectacular. Some plants are quite familiar, like varieties of agave and aloe. There are lots of succulents, which Jeff will enjoy. I intended to copy my photos of all the identification signs and paste on the photo of each plant. I may still do that when I find the time, but for now, here are some examples of the variety and beauty of the gardens.
